It depends on the repair. Baffle replacement requires opening the tank lid only — no digging. Distribution box repairs and pipe repairs require excavation. We use drop cloths, protect landscaping, and replace soil and sod as neatly as possible when we're done. For pipe repairs, we may be able to use trenchless methods that minimize digging.
Some do, some don't. Routine component replacements like baffles and pumps typically don't require permits. Structural tank repairs, drain field modifications, and system replacements usually do. We handle permit coordination as part of our service and can advise you on what your specific city and county require. Permit fees are disclosed in the estimate.
We strongly advise against DIY septic repairs. Septic systems present serious safety hazards — sewage gases, confined spaces, and biohazards. Many repairs also require a licensed contractor for permit approval and to maintain your system's warranty. Improper repairs often make the problem worse and cost more to fix in the end.
